[Comedias] En la vida / Sueños hay

Hi Everyone,

Harrison Meadows and I are excited to announce that we¹ve just published a
pedagogical edition of two plays by Calderón in one book: En la vida todo es
verdad y todo mentira and Sueños hay que verdad son (Cervantes & Co; ISBN

They are sublime plays, as many of you know already.  They¹ve got magic,
love, pathos, and everything else that I love about Calderón.  Sueños hay
que verdad son allegorizes the Old Testament story of Joseph; it¹s a story
about drought and people displaced by environmental catastrophes (events
that students from Georgia to California understand very well).

I¹ve taught the plays many times and they work really nicely together.  If
you teach them along with La vida es sueño, your students will get a fairly
good picture of Calderón¹s philosophical concerns and his interest in truth,
dreaming, perception, and so on; in two books, you¹d also get a comedia de
corral, a comedia palaciega, and an auto sacramental.  The plays have very
different plots, but related themes that will allow students to make
connections across works.

During the process of editing these plays, I got advice and input from many
of you.  Thank you for your help.  Harrison and I both hope that these
editions reflect your suggestions and live up to your expectations.
