They’ve got magic, love, pathos, and everything else that I love about Calderón. <i>Sueños hay que verdad son</i> allegorizes the Old Testament story of Joseph; it’s a story about drought and people displaced by environmental catastrophes (events that students from Georgia to California understand very well).</font></div><div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif">I’ve taught the plays many times and they work really nicely together. If you teach them along with<i> La vida es sueño</i>, your students will get a fairly good picture of Calderón’s philosophical concerns and his interest in truth, dreaming, perception, and so on; in two books, you’d also get a comedia de corral, a comedia palaciega, and an auto sacramental. The plays have very different plots, but related themes that will allow students to make connections across works.</font></div><div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font face="Calibri,sans-serif">During the process of editing these plays, I got advice and input from many of you.
