Gender, Mind Science, and Literature in Early Modern Spain: 

María de Zayas and the Defense of the Female Wit

 

This session will explore the relationship between scientific discourses of
the early modernity on female cognitive ability and the works of María de
Zayas, a defender of the female wit and advocate of women’s education, who
challenges the scientific and cultural misogyny of her time.
