Hi Celia,

How fantastic that you get to teach this exciting play! In case it's
of use, may I direct you to our Out of the Wings database which lists
many translations of 'Life is a Dream':

On there you will find details of lots of translations, but as you're
looking for a specific recommendation I would say it depends on
whether you would like a version in prose or in verse. For an
introduction to the play and a great prose version it is hard to beat
Michael Kidd's 2004 version published by Chicago, which goes into many
translation and staging issues your students will certainly benefit
from reading. If you prefer a verse version, Helen Edmundson's version
was recently performed in London so that is a good, stageworthy
version; but versions such as those by Harley Erdman, Rick Davis and
Gregary Racz are also very much worth considering and most have also
been performed. I can direct you to excerpts from some of these plays
that the authors have shared with our site if you need help
considering them.
