Dear Bruce,Dear All,
I have known Amy since my arrival in the US in 1990. I shall never forget the way she welcomed me at the Chamizal time after time. I published the book she edited with Valerie Hegstrom, Engendering the Early Modern Stage. Women Playwrights in the Spanish Empire. We kept in touch over the years, even after my departure to Latin America and Paraguay in December, 2008, where I have been living since. So, as Director of University Press of the South (www.unprsouth.com), I would like to pay tribute with offering publishing a book of articles in her honor. It would be:- Free publication (all cost covered by the press) of one or two volumes up to 400 pages each. I assume many would participate, since she got numerous friends. I suggest articles no longer than 20 pages each. I would be happy as a specialist of Early Modern Spain as a scholar to be one of the Editors. Maybe Valerie would be interested to join withme for one volume. Two other scholars could be part of the team of editors for a second volume. We would need help with collecting articles coming from the USA or elsewhere. - Articles will be accepted in English, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese. - Books will be sold at $29.95 the volume (therefore x2, if there are two of them). They will be sold at $19.95 each volume for AHCT and SSPHS, AHA, and MLA Members. Same price for students with ID, and seniors (over 65).
- If my project idea is accepted, I would suggest a deadline of Monday after Thanksgiving 2019 to send articles. That would give time to the editors and University Press of the South's Managing Editor, Ms. Inge Sterne, to prepare the volume (s) seriously, in time for the 2020 AHCT meeting, where the book will be presented and launched.
- I would like to ask Bruce Burningham to sound AHCT members if my project idea is of interest to Comedias Members. If it is, please recontact me rapidly. My personal email is: alainfrenchguy at gmail.com; my wasap/phone number is: 595-982-379-370.
Amy was a very good person and a great scholar. She will be missed. God bless her soul.
Dr. Alain Saint-Saëns

Dear members of AHCT, As you may have already heard, our dear friend and colleague Amy Williamsen passed away unexpectedly earlier this week.  I know that we are all stunned and deeply saddened by this news. Amy was a longtime member of our community and served for many years on the AHCT Board of Directors.  Moreover, as you know, Amy’s father Vern Williamsen was one of the founders of our organization, and thus Amy’s connection to AHCT actually began well before her official membership as a professional academic.  Indeed, if any one of us could truly be considered “family,” it was Amy; she was AHCT royalty. As a scholar, teacher, translator, mentor, and colleague, Amy’s contributions to AHCT, to the wider field ofcomedia studies, and to the Academy at large are immeasurable.  (And who can forget the sheer sparkle and wit that she brought to the pre-show introductions that she often performed with Ben Gunther and Kerry Wilks at the Chamizal festival?) More importantly, Amy’s commitment to kindness, to caring, and to justice made her the dear friend that we all loved and deeply respected.  Her enthusiasm was infectious and her generosity of spirit inspired us all to be better people.  I, for one, can say that it has been a profound honor to share the planet with her.  She will be sorely missed. Many of you have expressed a desire to honor Amy’s legacy.  In the coming weeks and months, the officers and board members of AHCT will discuss ways of doing justice to Amy’s profound impact on all of us, including scheduling formal events in her honor at next year’s conference in El Paso, Texas. In the meantime, if any of you have any suggestions for ways to pay homage to Amy, please do not hesitate to email me. And for those of you who may wish to send expressions of sympathy (Amy’s family has requested that we not send flowers), please send your condolences to: Tora Williamsen-Berry 724 Rickets LaneArdmore OK 73401  With a heavy heart,Bruce Burningham, PresidentThe Association for Hispanic Classical Theater  Bruce R.
