Call for Performances

For ASTR 2016 we invite performances that resonate with, respond to and
playfully provoke the conference’s theme TRANS. Performances might, for
example explore ideas of transgender, transfiguration, transgression,
transition, transportation, translation, transformation or transplant. We
invite you to think formally in terms of the *transitory* nature of
conferences and hotel spaces with performances that move across, through,
beyond, between people, places and states. These performances might be
works in progress or finished works. They might be durational, one-to-one,
flash, pop up, installation, lec-dem or invisible. Site specific proposals
for the city of Minneapolis are also welcome.

As well as live performance we also invite short (30 min max) video
submissions that could be part of a TRANS screening program.

*Abstracts:*

Abstracts should be 500 words in length, and should speak to how your
performance proposals relates to the conference theme TRANS. Feel free to
submit a performance cluster of a few small works by one or more artists in
dialogue with each other as well as individual proposals.

Details: Please give us a sense of duration as well as a sense of audience
number. When proposing your project please keep in mind that the conference
has very limited technical resources. Please indicate what kind of space
you ideally require but if you can be flexible also include your minimal
requirements. We may have some access to black box studios, theatre spaces,
screening rooms and gallery type spaces, though with the usual conference
constraints (so low tech works that can load in/out fairly quickly will be
easier for us to present).

At the top of your submission please state your name, contact information,
and affiliation. Include your proposal as a PDF and include your last name
in the file name.

Send your proposals to Leslie Hill: lkhill at stanford.edu Deadline: June 1
