In commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Part
Two of *Don

conference that crosses traditional fields of inquiry to examine the
*Quijote* in the context of the Mediterranean world, from the author’s time
to the present. Scholarly presentations will analyze migration and cultural
contact in the Mediterranean world; race, ethnicity and religious identity;
the Mediterranean and Transatlantic slave trade; Spain and the
Mediterranean as geographic and cultural borderlands; commercial and
intellectual networks and exchanges; the *Quijote* and African, Arabic,
and/or Sephardic Readers; and other cross-disciplinary investigations. We
welcome papers and panels that contextualize Cervantes’s work within
widening geopolitical and chronological parameters, to reconsider our
knowledge of European modernity from the perspective of Cervantes’s
masterpiece.
