I have been wanting to direct El Muerto Disimulado? by Angela de Azevedo, but there is no translation available in English. I am interested in the play, because it is the only play I know with cross-dressing in both directions--a woman disguised as a man and a man disguised as a woman. Also, I want to continue my exploration of the female playwrights of the Golden Age.

Subject: [Comedias] AHCT query

Dear colleagues,

For the last several weeks, Barbara Fuchs and I have been working with several students at UCLA on a translation project for next academic year.
After several productive, preliminary meetings, our next step is to choose a specific play. Since many of you probably already have a short list of comedias
memorized that you would love to see translated, I suggested we contact the listserve first, as your input as experts on this issue would be extremely valuable.
All I need are the names of three comedias you would nominate. If you would also like to justify your choices with a brief explanation
("the themes are timely"; "there are no good translations"; "this lesser-known play deserves critical attention", etc.), that would also be appreciated
(but not necessary). Please send me your titles by Friday, May 9. I will compile all of the data, share it with my colleagues up the road in Westwood,
and let you all know the results of our little encuesta as soon as possible!
