Job Description
Iowa State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Spanish to teach language and culture courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum with an emphasis on translation, interpretation, translation studies, and Spanish for professions. The successful candidate will be expected to teach five courses per year. There is a reduced teaching load (four courses) during the first three years of appointment. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop additional courses in translation or interpretation as needed and develop an active research agenda. The research area is open.

Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Spanish or related field by the time of appointment. Demonstrated commitment to developing an active research agenda. Familiarity with the field of translation or interpretation including professional communication. Ability to participate actively in undergraduate curriculum in Languages and Cultures for Professions. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish. Effective communication in English.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience that demonstrates proficiency in the use of technology in foreign language teaching. Experience and interest in developing Spanish translation and interpretation courses in a variety of disciplines, including technical/scientific, medical, or legal. Demonstrated interest in engaging with business and industry to develop internships.

Commensurate with qualifications
