Assistant Professor of Spanish - Spanish Language Program Director. The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Wichita State University invites applications for a tenure-eligible position in Spanish based on teaching, research and service beginning fall (August) 2013.  Required qualifications: PhD in hand at the time of appointment in Applied Linguistics, Spanish, or an equivalent degree; evidence of excellence in teaching and creative/innovative pedagogies; evidence of research potential; excellent oral and written communication skills in both Spanish and English; experience in working with diverse populations. Preferred qualifications: experience coordinating a beginning language program and/or TA training; ability to teach Second Language Acquisition courses; experience or interest in curriculum development, including instructional technology and assessment; commitment to departmental and university service; experience abroad and interest in teaching in our summer program in Puebla, Mexico.

Wichita State is a research focused, urban-serving institution located in Wichita, Kansas's largest city. The department offers a major and MA in Spanish. There will be a 2-2 course load (reduction from 3-3 load) for the administrative duties related to that of Spanish Language Program Director. The successful candidate will teach at all levels of Spanish curriculum.  They will supervise and mentor graduate students and lecturers teaching in the introductory language sequence and develop/choose materials that contribute to the success of the program.  S/he will contribute to improvement and growth of the undergraduate and graduate programs, and participate in departmental and university governance. To ensure full consideration, candidates will need to complete an application with WSU's on-line hiring tool, People Admin, wichita.edu/wsujobs, by November 30, 2012, but position remains open until filled.  After completing the on-line application, candidates will be prompted to upload a cover letter, CV and teaching philosophy, which are required.  In addition, three letters of recommendation must be sent to the search chair, Dr. Kerry Wilks.  Review of applicants will begin in December to select candidates for Skype interviews.  Finalists must successfully complete an on-site interview.
