Dear Comediantes,

Actually, a remarkable book on Spanish Golden Age actors is Teresa Ferrer Valls' Diccionario biográfico de actores del teatro clásico español (DICAT), Bibliografías y catálogos 50, Kassel: Edition Reichenberger, 2008. ISBN: 978-3-937734-62-0. You might want to check the link here: <http://home.snafu.de/reichenberger/>.

Also, with respect to Nelson López's edition of El valiente negro en Flandes, by Andrés de Claramonte, I don't see any reason for modesty. That is a unique edition that deals with the poetic and the spectacular text. It is useful not only for scholars but for directors and actors as well <http://www.reichenberger.de/Pages/l101.html>.

Kind regards,

Robert

A great source is Evangelina Rodriguez Cuadros La tecnica de Actor Español en el barroco, a human source: Dean M. Zayas, and why not? A plug-in El valiente negro en Flandes, edición para actores y directores, by yours truly, Nelson Lopez. I know, shameless, but in the year of Facebook and twitterdom, self advertisement is the latest trend.

Happy new Year!

Performing outdoors, at night: Only lighting: candles and torches.

Performing outdoors in daylight: overcoming all the distracting visuals and sound in our surroundings.

A totally different set of concerns. Everything truly in the hands of the actors.

Dear all,

I have a student who is writing a paper on acting during the Spanish Golden Age - but is having a very hard time locating sources.

How valid would using the character types of the commedia dell'arte be as a possible approach?

Are there any good sources on acting during the Spanish Golden Age?

Anything else that might be helpful that I am not thinking of???

Thanks for any help you might be able to give.
